The Role
Are you experienced in arc welding processes like TIG, PAW and MAG? Do you possess the capability to interpret engineering drawings, including weld symbols, ensuring precision and accuracy? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you. We are a total manufacturing solution facility looking to appoint an experienced fabricator/welder to our growing team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our projects.
Hours & Schedule
Once probation/training has been successfully completed, positions are for permanent days, 2‑week rotational days/nights, or permanent nights, working a maximum of 46 hours per week. Day shift: Monday–Thursday 0700–1730 (half‑hour unpaid lunch break); Friday 0700–1300. Night shift: Monday–Thursday 1830–0630 (half‑hour unpaid lunch break).
Salary
- Day shift: £34,083 to £39,468 (grade 3.3‑5.1)
- Day/night rotation: £37,674 to £45,448 (grade 4.3‑6.1)
- Night shift: £43,056 to £52,624 (grade 5.3‑7.1)
Key Responsibilities
- The assembly, fabrication and welding of stainless‑steel parts and sub‑assemblies.
- Interpret drawings or other work instructions with particular attention to tolerances and surface finish requirements, alone or with others depending on complexity.
- During the manufacturing cycle, check that the component is within the drawing requirements and complete dimensional record sheets as necessary. Seek advice or bring concerns to the team/shift leader or inspector.
- Be available, if required, to work extra hours under reasonable circumstances and to carry out any other duties which may be required by the shop supervisor.
- Assist with training of others and identify training gap needs associated with the job function.
- Report all breakdowns and malfunctions, providing full descriptions of the problems and their effect on component accuracy and/or timescales for completion.
- Support and accurately capture performance data, including time records and dimensional measurements.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and routinely checked in accordance with TPM schedules, and that surrounding areas are clean and in an acceptable condition.
- Carry out other processes within the facility as necessary to complete work on time and with right‑first‑time quality.
The Person
- Apprentice trained or time‑served fabricator/welder with proven experience.
- Experience of arc welding processes: TIG, PAW, MMA, MIG/MAG, FCAW, SAW.
- Experience with manual, mechanised or robotic welding.
- Project experience from concept to product realisation.
- Able to read and understand engineering drawings, including weld symbols.
- Experience with overhead cranes is an advantage.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to work as part of a team to achieve quality standards and meet production deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and use own initiative.
- Adherence to health and safety rules/requirements is essential.
- Exceptionally high personal standards with attention to detail, taking pride in the quality of your work.
- Dependable, accountable and self‑motivated.
