PEOPLE & CULTURE MANAGER

Contract: Full-time 37.5 hours per week (flexible working will be considered)

Reporting to: Director of Care

Requirement: Enhanced DBS (we can apply for this on your behalf)

Salary: Β£36,500 - Β£39,500 (dependent on experience)

Closing Date: 30th October 2026

At Francis House, we dedicate ourselves to providing care for children and young adults who have life-shortening or life-threatening conditions and provide essential support for their families. Based in Didsbury, South Manchester, we have been providing services for those who need us since 1991.

Great care for children and families depends on great support for the people providing it.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced People professional ready to take the next step in their career and become the trusted People specialist within a values-led children's hospice.

This is a varied, hands-on standalone role with real autonomy. One day you might be coaching a manager through a sensitive employee relations matter; another you could be reviewing absence trends, developing a policy, strengthening People governance or working with colleagues on wellbeing and culture.

You won't be managing a People team. You will, however, have some scope to develop and influence how People practice works across the hospice and build trusted relationships with managers and colleagues throughout the organisation.

You don't necessarily need to be CIPD qualified already. We're looking for someone with strong practical HR knowledge, sound judgement and the confidence to advise managers; and we'll support the right person to continue developing professionally.

This role is a new appointment seeking to add strength and support to the Senior Leadership Team by having a dedicated People resource; hence the importance of this appointment.

Is this role right for you? Well, we believe that it would suit an experienced HR Advisor ready for their next step, or an established Manager who enjoys hands-on HR. Passion for working within the Hospice or Charity sector would also be an advantage, even if that is not your current working environment.

We have a third-party organisation that provides policy, process and contractual frameworks, and the post-holder will work with this entity to ensure ongoing compliance in this regard whilst providing onsite hands-on support to managers and staff across all people-related matters.

Along with the main Hospice, there are two other off-site residential homes to be supported ensuring policies and procedures are universally adopted, especially in relation to absence management.

Our ideal candidate is one excited about their first standalone role with the opportunity to influence the future people agenda. To fit with the Hospice culture, you will need to be flexible; we are not a "corporate" organisation so being able to act independently, using your own initiative and understanding how people will react to having a new role within the organisation will be a huge advantage.

We are fortunate to have a very low attrition rate indicating that we have a committed loyal workforce who enjoy being part of the team. Compassion and emotional intelligence in our People Manager is key.
