Horsham District Council is looking for a Training and Assessment Officer to support the Training Manager in delivering and maintaining the Local Authority’s annual training plan, with a strong focus on driver and operational training within our Waste & Recycling and Environmental Services teams.
As Training and Assessment Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the development and delivery of interactive training programmes covering areas such as manual handling and the use of reversing assistants.
- Conducting inductions and ongoing training for staff.
- Carrying out driver assessments and providing constructive feedback to maintain high standards.
- Promoting safe, compliant driving practices in line with the Highway Code and drivers’ hours regulations.
- Ensuring training records are accurate and audit-ready.
- Contributing to keeping training plans up to date.
- Undertaking research to support adherence to current Health and Safety guidelines.
Working pattern and hours per day for this role are negotiable.
To succeed as a Training and Assessment Officer, you will possess the ability to deliver training to groups of varying sizes, both in classroom settings and online. You will also need previous experience in customer service and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from diverse ethnic, social and professional backgrounds, both verbally and in writing. Confidence providing constructive feedback is essential, as well as the ability to handle challenging situations related to driving assessments, operational training and maintaining standards.
As a Training and Assessment Officer, you will also have strong time management, organisational, and problem-solving skills, along with competence in IT, particularly in using Microsoft Office applications such as PowerPoint. It would be advantageous for candidates to have experience working in a training or assessor role, as well as experience in presenting and delivering training. A full driving licence with LGV ‘C’ entitlement is desirable, alongside strong influencing skills. Holding a recognised advanced driving qualification and a recognised driver assessor qualification would also be beneficial.
As this role requires the post holder to drive Council vehicles, periodic driving assessments will be required.
