The Administrative Dean position is a temporary assignment for a period of two (2) years. The selected candidate will remain on the teacher salary scale for the duration of the assignment, in accordance with district guidelines. At the conclusion of the two-year term, the employee will return to their original job title and position classification. While every effort will be made to place the employee in a comparable role, there is no guarantee of assignment to the same school or location previously held. Placement will be determined based on district needs at that time. Candidates are encouraged to consider the 2-year term of this assignment and the conditions of return placement prior to applying for the position.

Terms of Employment: 190 Days (Two Year Position)

Job Summary: The Administrative Dean supports the principal in leading the instructional program, school operations, and student support systems to improve student outcomes. This role is a two-year leadership development assignment designed to build future school and district leaders through focused experience in instructional leadership, systems improvement, and organizational management. This position is strategically allocated to assist schools in exiting federal accountability identification status by strengthening literacy outcomes, ensuring effective MTSS implementation, and improving overall school performance through aligned, evidence-based practices.

The Administrative Dean will:

  • Assist in overseeing all student testing, data analysis, and progress monitoring to inform instruction and intervention.
  • Support and monitor MTSS processes, ensuring timely interventions, documentation, and student support systems.
  • Assist with the Special Education needs of students and staff related to compliance and instruction.
  • Support student behaviour management, citizenship development, and positive student growth through consistent systems and practices.
  • Assist in leading school improvement efforts focused on moving students to grade-level proficiency and accelerating learning outcomes.
  • Promote staff collaboration and professional relationships that support a positive school culture and climate.
  • Support coordination of school operations related to traffic control and student transportation.
  • Assist with auxiliary services, including pupil attendance, records, and accounting procedures as assigned.
  • Assist in leading the total school program in accordance with district philosophy, school board policies, accrediting agency standards, and state statutes.
  • Provide information, analysis, and recommendations to the principal to support effective decision-making.
  • Assist in supervising, directing, and improving the instructional program, including classroom observations and feedback as assigned.
  • Support the planning and implementation of professional learning and staff development opportunities.
  • Help ensure the health, safety, and welfare of students and staff members.
  • Assist in supervising the maintenance and operation of the school facility.
  • Support proper compliance with school funds, purchasing, and local school accounting procedures, including review of disbursement documentation as assigned.
  • Provide appropriate instruction to students in accordance with the district teacher job description, if the position includes teaching responsibilities.

Leadership Development & Capacity-Building Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a structured two-year leadership development pathway focused on instructional leadership, school systems, and organizational management.
  • Participate in mentoring and coaching with the principal and/or district leadership to build leadership competencies.
  • Lead or co-lead targeted school improvement initiatives aligned to district priorities (e.g., literacy, attendance, behaviour systems, instructional practices).
  • Develop skills in analysing school data to inform instructional, operational, and student support decisions.
  • Support development of leadership capacity among teachers and support staff through modelling, feedback, and facilitation.
  • Complete leadership reflections, growth plans, and milestone reviews as part of the two-year development cycle.

Other Duties: Stay abreast of educational research, leadership practices, and school improvement trends. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate district administrator.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required):

  • Master's degree in education or administration/supervision from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid South Carolina teacher certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching or other related experience in an educational environment at the school level.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
