Hornsey Housing Trust provides affordable housing and support services in the London Borough of Haringey, enabling older people to live independently in their chosen communities. The Trust focuses on delivering quality homes and value-for-money services while placing tenants at the centre of all decisions. Residents come from a wide range of ages, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds, primarily in Hornsey, Crouch End, Tottenham, and Highgate. The Trust specialises in housing older people, with a minimum allocation age of 45 and an average resident age of 70. Around one-third of its homes are sheltered housing schemes offering additional services for more vulnerable residents.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Repairs Operative role based in London. The Repairs Operative will carry out day-to-day maintenance, repair, and other tasks in tenants’ homes and communal areas, ensuring properties are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with relevant standards. Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting faults
  • Completing repairs within competence
  • Prioritising urgent and emergency repairs
  • Visiting multiple properties
  • Recording work completed
  • Ordering or requesting materials
  • Updating job records accurately
  • Liaising with tenants and colleagues
  • Scheduling follow-up visits where necessary
  • Contributing to delivering a high level of satisfaction and service quality

Skills & abilities

  • Demonstrable competence within a primary trade (general plumbing, carpentry)
  • Various multi-trade skills and experience (tiling, painting and plastering), sufficient to enable the completion of repairs at the first visit (first time fix)
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Proven ability to work methodically, follow procedures and accurately record data and information
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems seeking any advice required
  • Ability to carry out physical tasks and lift weights in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines
  • Ability to operate safely having considered any environmental circumstances and possible risks
