Our client has for over 30 years been one of the world’s foremost manufacturers of very narrow aisle (VNA) material handling equipment. They design, manufacture and market award-winning articulated forklift trucks at the company’s UK manufacturing plant. As part of their future plans to grow the business worldwide, they are looking to recruit a (Graduate) Engineer to join their team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director you will play a key role in the future development of their products and business.
The Role: You will be involved in the design and development of the next generation of material handling equipment, taking into account:
- Ease of assembly
- Cost of manufacture
- Ease of servicing
- Latest advances in technology
Initial Project – To design, develop and bring into production from ‘the ground up’ a new material handling vehicle.
Other aspects initially – To support the engineering function:
- Design & Drafting
- Sourcing parts
- Site work
- Preparing technical proposals / Quotations
- Support the sales function with technical assistance
- Prepare instructions
You should possess knowledge of:
- Mechanical systems (gears, bearings etc)
- Hydraulic systems (valves, cylinders etc)
- Fabrication & assembly processes
- Design & drafting (AutoCAD 2D & 3D)
- Production processes
It would be desirable if you have knowledge of:
- Electrical/electronic components, circuits and control systems.
You are likely to have graduated in General, Mechanical or Design engineering or a related discipline and have at least 2 years’ experience in a relevant position. For the position the successful candidate should also possess/or be:
- A good general education with an appropriate degree or similar experience
- An ability to communicate at all levels, both verbally and in writing
- An ability to undertake complex work in a planned and systematic manner
- ‘Hands on’ with a range of practical skills
- Able to display initiative
- Flexible and enthusiastic
- A team player
- Able to work independently and on own initiative within specified guidelines or processes
