Position: English Trainee (September 2026) – Unsalaried Route, Full time, Fixed Term Contract.

Job Overview: We are looking to welcome a graduate with a strong degree to train as a teacher of English. The training encompasses a one‑year initial teacher training course (ITT) with a view to permanent employment, contingent upon successful completion of the course, satisfactory performance and available vacancy.

Responsibilities:

  • Take on a small timetable in the first year, increasing in hours over the course of the year.
  • Work closely with an experienced mentor who will be present in the classroom.
  • Follow Hornchurch High School's bespoke initial teacher training development programme.
  • Foster excellence in teaching and inspire enthusiasm for English among pupils.
  • Play a significant and meaningful role in the co‑curricular life of the school.

Qualifications and Conditions:

  • Graduated with a strong degree.
  • Responsible for funding their own ITT course fees, as the route is unsalaried.
  • Eligible to progress to an Early Career Teacher (ECT) programme on the qualified main teacher pay scale upon successful completion.
