Role Description
This is a full‑time, on‑site Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist role based at our facility in Wigan. The CNC Machinist will set up and operate CNC machines to produce precision components for the valve industry in line with engineering drawings and specifications. Daily responsibilities include:
- Selecting and installing tooling
- Adjusting machine offsets
- Performing machining operations such as milling and boring
- Inspecting parts to verify dimensional accuracy
- Routine machine maintenance
- Troubleshooting basic mechanical issues
- Documenting production activities to support quality and traceability
The CNC Machinist will collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and colleagues on the shop floor to optimize processes, maintain a safe workspace, and meet production deadlines.
Qualifications
- Strong CNC Machine Operation and general Machinery skills, including setup, safe operation, and basic maintenance of CNC equipment.
- Proficiency in Turning and Milling, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and machining symbols.
- Experience with Quality Control practices, including use of measuring tools (e.g. micrometers, verniers, gauges) and recording inspection results.
- Prior experience working in a precision engineering, valve, or related manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with CNC programming or editing (e.g. Fanuc, Mazak, or similar controls); experience with CAM software such as Mastercam or Fusion 360 is an advantage.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, CNC Machining, or a similar discipline, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
- Ability to work accurately with minimal supervision, follow safety procedures, and contribute positively in a team‑based shop‑floor environment.
