The Woodlands Academy is now part of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust. The Trust comprises eight Academies across Tees Valley, County Durham and North Yorkshire, supporting over 1000 children and young people with a range of special educational needs. As a Special Academy, we believe what we offer to our children, community and staff is unique and enables us to be forward-thinking in terms of our curriculum and provision.
As a specialist Academy for children with a wide range of SEN needs, we have a strong moral compass in everything we do. Our specialisms are predominantly within Autism, Communication Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health. Our staff are our greatest asset, and we invest in both our teaching and support staff CPD, which has placed us in a good position regarding current educational challenges.
Our Academy is growing and is very popular with parents and within the community. We have recently had a successful Ofsted Inspection and have been graded as Good. We have also embarked upon the redevelopment of The Woodlands Academy, resulting in a new purpose-built Academy.
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated General Teaching Assistant (GTA) to join our team and work with our children to support them to be the best they can be. As an Academy, we follow a primary model with the class lead delivering the whole curriculum as opposed to subject specialists. Working in our Academy is incredibly rewarding as we all work together as part of the team enriching the education of our pupils.
Our staff are highly regarded, and we pride ourselves on developing our teams to excel and develop their careers through specialised training and career paths. We encourage applications from candidates who have a passion for special education and wish to work in a setting that offers reward and challenge where no two days are the same!
The successful applicant will support pupils of varied ages and needs across the whole curriculum. Applicants should have a genuine interest in working with children with additional needs and are required to have:
- Experience appropriate to working with children in an education setting.
- Commitment to fostering an environment that is encouraging, caring and supportive, with the physical and medical needs of children being catered for to the highest standard.
We provide pupils with nurture and structure; this enables engagement and challenge. It takes a certain type of personality to successfully deliver the support and education we offer. We know from a wealth of experience that it is not easy, and we have detailed support mechanisms in place for all new starters, whether pupils or staff.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dedicated team who have a clear philosophy and ethos of how they will work together to meet the needs of the pupils in their care and ensure our pupils can be the best they can be.
