Horizon56 are looking for a Digital Operations Engineer to join our Deployment team, ideally based in or around Aberdeen / North-East Scotland. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a drilling background who wants to take their operational experience into the digital side of the industry — while still maintaining a close connection to offshore operations.
Who are we? Horizon56 is a fast-growing software company with an ambition to transform the way wells are planned and executed. Our software creates a digital link between well planning and drilling execution, bringing operators, drilling contractors and other stakeholders together on a common platform. We work with leading companies across the global drilling industry, including Equinor, bp, Aker BP, Archer, ExxonMobil, Noble, Shell, TotalEnergies and others.
The role: As a Digital Operations Engineer, you will play an important role in deploying Horizon56's software with our customers and driving successful adoption of our solutions. You will work directly with drilling crews and customer organizations, both offshore and onshore, helping users understand and adopt new digital ways of working. A key part of the role is coaching offshore personnel during deployments — working alongside drillers, assistant drillers, drilling supervisors and other operational personnel to ensure our solutions deliver real value in day-to-day operations. You will also work closely with Horizon56's Product team, providing valuable feedback from the field and helping us continuously improve both our products and the way we deploy them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Train and coach personnel in the Horizon56 software ecosystem
- Support deployments offshore, onshore and remotely
- Drive software adoption and new digital ways of working with drilling crews
- Monitor deployment progress and user adoption and provide targeted coaching where needed
- Collaborate closely with customers, offshore teams and Horizon56's technical teams
- Test and verify new functionality and software releases
- Capture operational feedback and contribute to continuous improvement of our products and deployment processes
Who are we looking for:
We are particularly interested in people with operational drilling experience, such as Drilling Engineers or similar drilling / well construction backgrounds. You don't need to come from a software background. What matters to us is that you understand drilling operations, are comfortable with technology, enjoy working with people and are excited about helping the industry adopt new digital ways of working.
You should also:
- Be a strong communicator and comfortable coaching people from different backgrounds and cultures
- Have a proactive and solution-oriented mindset
- Be comfortable working independently as well as part of a global team
- Be willing to travel internationally and work offshore for extended periods
- Have good general IT skills
- Be fluent in written and spoken English
- Experience with drilling reporting systems or digital drilling workflows would be an advantage.
We are looking for someone based in or around Aberdeen, Scotland. The position combines offshore rotations and onshore work. During offshore deployments, the role typically follows a 1:1 rotation. Between offshore assignments, work may be performed from home, customer locations or Horizon56 locations depending on deployment requirements. As our customers operate globally, international travel should be expected.
Why Horizon56?
At Horizon56, we strongly believe in giving opportunities to the right people. Your attitude, operational experience, curiosity and potential matter just as much to us as formal qualifications. If you have experience from working in drilling operations and are interested in helping shape how digital technology is used on tomorrow's drilling rigs, we would love to hear from you.
