Horizon Teachers are looking for a compassionate, organised, and motivated Student Support Officer to join the support team at a high-performing secondary academy in Westminster. This is a key role within our pastoral care structure, providing vital support to students throughout the school day. As the first point of contact for students in need of assistance—whether for medical, emotional, or behavioural reasons—you will play a central role in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. You will work closely with students, staff, and families to ensure each young person feels heard, supported, and cared for. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day first-line support for students during the school day.
  • Triage students needing time out from lessons or medical assistance.
  • Administer first aid and medical care for minor injuries and ongoing health needs.
  • Communicate with parents/carers regarding student wellbeing or incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of incidents, medication, and interventions.
  • Assist in managing student medical plans and liaise with relevant staff.
  • Improve and maintain systems and processes to enhance student support.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff, and external professionals.
  • Support the creation of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • A caring, approachable, and friendly manner with a genuine interest in student welfare.
  • Strong administrative skills, including the ability to write clear, concise communication.
  • Confidence in improving systems, record-keeping, and support processes.
  • Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in high-pressure or sensitive situations.

  • First aid training is desirable but not essential - training will be provided.
  • Previous experience in a school or education setting is an advantage but not required.
