We are currently recruiting for a Motor Vehicle Tutor to support learners within an Alternative Provision setting. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on mechanical experience who is confident working with disengaged students and can bring learning to life through practical delivery.

The Role

  • Delivering practical, workshop-based sessions (e.g. small engines, basic mechanics, maintenance tasks)
  • Supporting learners on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Building positive relationships with students who may be disengaged from mainstream education
  • Encouraging attendance, engagement and confidence through hands-on learning
  • Supporting personal development, employability skills and progression pathways
  • Working collaboratively with pastoral and support staff

About the Learners

You will be working with young people who may:

  • Have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Be at risk of exclusion or currently outside mainstream education
  • Require additional support to engage with learning

A calm, patient and consistent approach is essential.

What We're Looking For

We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Motor mechanics / vehicle technicians
  • Workshop engineers or hands-on trades
  • Vocational tutors or instructors
  • Youth workers with practical skillsets

You do not need to be a qualified teacher, but you must have:

  • Strong practical mechanical knowledge (e.g. engines, maintenance, tools)
  • Confidence managing behaviour and engaging young people
  • A proactive and resilient approach
  • The ability to build rapport quickly and positively

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience working in education, training or youth settings
  • Level 2/3 qualification in Motor Vehicle or similar
  • Understanding of SEND / SEMH needs
  • Teaching, training or assessing qualification (e.g. PTLLS, AET)

We're proud to be an inclusive employer, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds and committed to creating accessible opportunities across education. As part of our registration process, you'll need an enhanced DBS check and we'll need to see and copy your original qualifications before any placement.
