We have the pleasure of working on a rare opportunity to join our fantastic client as Head of Instrumentation. For this tremendous opportunity, we are seeking an experienced sales professional within a relevant technical/scientific field. The role is based on site in rural Cambridgeshire when not travelling to meet customers or attending events. This is a full-time permanent position and the salary is negotiable depending on experience.
The company is a UK-based company specialising in the development and manufacture of advanced gas detection instruments and sensors. With over 35 years of experience, the company is renowned for its expertise in Photoionisation Detection (PID) technology. Their product range of VOC and gas sensors is deployed across a broad spectrum of industries including Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Air Quality, Pharmaceutical and Manufacturing, supporting their mission to protect lives and preserve the environment.
The role primarily involves leading the team, directing and driving the sales, product management and technical support teams to help maximise GP from the sales and support of instruments around the world. The successful candidate will balance a combination of leading and “doing” to meet yearly sales and gross profit targets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Commercial Director, responsible for strategic product management, sales growth and after-sales support of the innovative range of personal, portable and fixed gas detection instruments both via distribution and directly to OEMs and end users.
- Manage and support the instrumentation team members.
- Identify, appoint, onboard and train new distributors, OEMs, key accounts and end users.
- Manage and support existing distributors, OEMs, key accounts and end users.
- Identify and evaluate new business development opportunities (sales, product, market, application).
- Attend exhibitions and conferences.
Other Responsibilities Include:
- Working with the commercial director and wider teams to produce and implement the business growth and product strategies.
- Management, leadership and development of 1 indirect and 6 direct reports.
- Planning and managing the team budget (primarily associated with travel costs).
- Maintain a rolling 12+ month revenue and profit forecast.
- Providing up-to-date and accurate information to the board helping to provide insights and strategic direction for the business.
- Working collaboratively across all business functions to drive alignment and understanding.
- Acting as the voice for the customer and champion for company products.
- Supporting the wider Commercial team (Marketing, Sensors and Order Administration) to provide the best possible experience for the customer and to leverage all opportunities for growth.
The Person:
For this important role within the company, we are seeking someone with the following skills and attributes:
- Educated to degree level within a relevant technical subject – Chemistry, Physics and Engineering or equivalent experience.
- A proven international sales professional with experience in technical (physical) product sales.
- Distributor channel experience.
- Previous experience with leading a team as a genuine team player.
- Highly energetic, proactive and motivated.
- Ideally some knowledge of product management.
- Knowledge of gas sensing or leak detection products.
- Experience selling to Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Occupational Health or Health and Safety sectors.
This role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. The salary offered is depending on experience, along with incentives, car, mobile phone and benefits.
