We’re seeking a sales and new business development professional to join our client’s small, successful electronic component distribution firm. This role is office based for 4 days each week, either at their small Stevenage office or larger office in Thurston, Suffolk depending on your location. Once initial training and probation has been completed, you will be able to work from home for 1 day of the week. It is a full-time, permanent position working Monday – Friday from 09:00 – 17:00.

The Company

Our client is a well-established business sourcing and supplying niche electronic components for a wide range of markets. They’re a friendly team and are ideally seeking somebody to join them for the long‑term and become a much‑valued member of their growing business. The small team of 13 is mainly based at the company’s headquarters in Suffolk, though they have a small satellite office in Stevenage, too.

The Job

This role involves lots of new business development, coupled with account management duties for clients in the electronics industry both in the UK and globally. Thanks to our client’s business niche, their products are quite sought after. Duties include:

  • Lead generation, researching potential new business conducting cold and warm calling.
  • Establish the customers potential needs, find out what they manufacture, where they source their electronic components from and if there is anything they struggle to find.
  • Liaising with stock controller to discuss product availability and contacting suppliers to source any items not in stock.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to get best price.
  • Working against time pressures to ensure your customers receive their orders in good time, especially if needed for production deadlines.
  • Occasionally visiting customers as well as visiting the head office in Stowmarket as required.
  • Adding data and updated customer or supplier information on the company database.
  • Creation and chasing of quotations.
  • Generating sales reports as required.

The Person

This role requires somebody who is inquisitive and a confident communicator, who has some experience in the electronics industry, preferably from a brokerage perspective. You’ll need a good level of computer/IT confidence and skill for using Sage (training given) and crucially, previous experience within a Sales / Business Development role and be comfortable with making sales calls. Other requirements are as follows:

  • Has the drive to meet and exceed sales targets.
  • Reliable, responsible character with the ability to self‑manage.
  • Happy to make cold approaches via phone, and throw yourself into new business development.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A good team‑player and happy to work as a key part of a small, busy and growing business.
  • Good, clear, friendly and professional communication skills.
  • Own driving licence and car for site visits.

In Return

Our client is offering a basic salary between £28,000 - £38,000 depending on relevant experience + uncapped commission. The OTE is around £36k - £48k per annum.
