We are seeking two Process Operators to join our client at their manual manufacturing plant in Mildenhall, Suffolk. This is a permanent, shift-based position, working X4 12-hour day shifts one week, followed by X3 12-hour night shifts the week after. The salary on offer with the role ranges from £27,000 - £38,000 per annum depending on relevant experience.
The Company has been operating for over 50 years and is an independent business who manufacture batch chemicals for blue chip companies globally. Their finished products are fine chemicals and polymers, used for making anything from sealants, adhesives, dyes, paint, oil additives and many other products. They employ around 40 staff and have a respectful workplace with a traditional, friendly and fair company culture. Each member of staff is well looked after and can enjoy pay increase and progression opportunities in exchange for long-term commitment and great work ethic.
This position involves following process controls and working to production schedules to mix and manufacture large quantity batches of fine chemicals and polymers. It is a hands-on, on-your-feet role working 12-hour shifts in a manual chemical processing plant. Full and continuous training will be given throughout your employment. You will be using multi-purpose reactors and ancillary equipment to meet required production output, whilst upholding agreed standards of quality. It will involve working as a tight knit shift team.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Organise and carry out the manufacture of batches in accordance with the set written procedures.
- Report to the Team Leader as appropriate to ensure that any changes to production requirements are implemented and that any plant delays or problems are communicated.
- Organise and carry out the packing of non-bulk powders in accordance with the set procedures, in order to maintain Production requirements.
- Organise and carry out the packing of liquids to kegs, drums and IBC's in accordance with the set procedures, in order to maintain Production requirements.
- Organise and carry out the acceptance and transfer from road tanker to storage vessel of liquid raw materials delivered in bulk in accordance with the set procedures.
- Organise and carry out the release and transfer of bulk finished product or waste from storage vessel to bulk road tanker in accordance with the set procedures.
- Liaison with the Team Leader to ensure that the fork lift truck requirements of the plant are met, i.e. to ensure that the Raw Materials / Intermediates required are available on the plant and that Finished Products are promptly transferred to the designated storage areas.
- Ensure that good standards of housekeeping on the Site are adhered to at all times.
- Liaison with Production Management and Engineering to ensure that any equipment breakdowns are reported and rectified as rapidly as possible.
- Ensure that all paperwork associated with manufacture and packing of batches is completed correctly according to Company procedures.
- Ensure that all labelling requirements associated with manufacture and packing of batches is completed according to Company requirements.
Requirements:
This role requires a responsible person who has experience working in a manufacturing environment, can demonstrate job loyalty and longevity in past roles, and is committed to long-term training. You’ll need to understand the importance of following set procedures and maintaining health and safety standards. Experience of COMAH is desirable.
Essential requirements:
- Experience working in a process/production role within manufacturing.
- Has held down long-term positions previously.
- Good knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Enjoys training and takes a keen interest in professional self-development.
- Has previously worked nights.
- Is literate, numerate, able to communicate clearly and follow both verbal and written instructions accurately and consistently.
- Professional, sensible, upbeat attitude.
- Previous experience working in an industrial environment, which can be physically challenging at times.
Desirable requirements:
- Preferably some knowledge of COSHH.
- Previous experience working within chemical manufacture and process operations.
- A formal qualification in science (preferably chemistry), such as a GCSE, A Level, HND or BSc would be an advantage.
- Ability to operate or be trained to operate a counterbalance forklift truck.
Shifts:
This role operates on a 12 hour weekly rotating shift pattern as follows:
- Day shift: Monday - Thursday 7:15am – 7:30pm.
- Night Shift: Monday - Wednesday 7:15pm - 7:30am.
Salary:
The annual salary on offer, which is inclusive of shift allowance ranges between £27,000 - £38,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, experience, and qualifications. Our client conducts in-depth pay and performance reviews with every staff member annually, offers increased holiday allowance with service, death in service, life assurance which is 4X salary and pension scheme at 4% employer contribution.
