Horizon Healthcare is offering a fixed-term, Salaried GP position, until the end of March 2027 with the exciting possibility of a permanent post for the right candidate. 6-8 sessions per week, immediate start.

  • Additional support of associated allied health professionals, such as First contact physio and dieticians, social prescribing and care coordination.

Main duties of the job:

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract.
  • The post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

You will be joining a forward-thinking General Practice with motivated multi-disciplinary teams of both administrative and healthcare professional colleagues. Horizon Healthcare operates a "Primary Care Consultant" model for our team of GPs giving value to the individual and propelling them into a learning environment where they will have the constant support of an on-call partner. Administrative duties are considerably reduced by our other in-house specialist teams. Horizon Healthcare has a list size of 29,000 plus patients and offers competitive rates of pay based on experience and skill levels.

Job responsibilities:

  • The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
  • The provision of services commensurate with the GMS contract
  • Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
  • Effective management of long-term conditions
  • To clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly referring patients to other services/agencies in a timely manner, utilising Practice and any other local guidelines
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
  • To support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care
  • Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
  • Review medications following the appropriate policies, NICE/local clinical guidelines and local care pathways
  • Support the delivery of anticipatory care plans
  • On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
  • Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
  • Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
  • Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF
  • Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
  • Contribute effectively to the development and maintenance of the practice including; clinical governance, training, financial management and HR
  • Be aware of your duties and responsibilities regarding current legislation and adhere to practice policies and procedures on Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children
  • Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
  • Prepare and complete the revalidation process to remain fit to practice
  • Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
  • Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines
  • Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
  • Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at all times
  • Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement at all times
  • To be an integral part of the general practice team as well as supporting the wider network and multi-disciplinary team

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP may be requested to:

  • Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e. root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Participate in the spectrum of clinical governance processes
  • Participate in formal training events promoting best practice in area of expertise
  • Provide leadership and education for members of the multi-disciplinary team, providing guidance and support when necessary

Person Specification:

Experience:
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of continued professional development
  • Experience of QOF and clinical audit
  • General understanding of the GMS contract
  • Minimum of two years as a salaried GP
  • Experience of medicines management
  • Experience of CCG initiatives
Other requirements:
  • Flexibility to work outside of core office hours
  • Occupational Health Clearance
  • Project lead as required with CQC, CCG and QOF
Qualifications:
  • Qualified GP
  • MRCGP
  • Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent
  • JCPTGP
  • General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
  • Full GMC Registration
  • National Performers List registration
  • Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
