We are looking for SEN Teachers of Primary aged children to join our new school in the Oldham area. You will be working with children aged 5‑19 in a specialist SEN environment. Thornycroft School will be an independent specialist day school providing high‑quality education for up to 70 pupils, meeting the diverse needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism. We provide a holistic, bespoke curriculum with rich learning opportunities that enable young people to develop functional life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead classroom teaching for primary‑aged students with SEN, ensuring inclusive and tailored instruction.
  • Design and implement lesson plans that meet individual educational plans (IEPs) for students with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Collaborate with Headteachers, SENCos, and the therapeutic team to support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • QTS or QTLS qualification.
  • Proven teaching and learning experience.
  • Up‑to‑date safeguarding and child protection qualifications/knowledge and experience.
  • Outstanding classroom practice.
  • Energy, passion, and drive to raise standards.
  • Initiative, vision, excellent planning, and organisational skills.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of developments in education.

Supported by Horizon Care and Education staff, including the Director of Curriculum and operational leadership. The role is subject to satisfactory criminal record check and references.
