Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you thrive in a dynamic and rewarding environment? If so, Horizon Care and Education is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic 1-1 Teaching Assistants to join the team at this new school.

Due to the needs of the children at the school, you will be working 1-1 with a child with increased SEN needs. Thornycroft School will be a brand-new, independent specialist day school providing high-quality education for up to 70 pupils. Opening in the spring, we are looking forward to welcoming new students! Based in Oldham, Greater Manchester, the school will meet the diverse needs of pupils aged 5-19 with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism.

Jennifer, the Headteacher, is busy preparing the school for a new intake of students and is looking to recruit Teaching Assistants who would like to be involved in this exciting new school. A great opportunity!

What you’ll get to do:

  • Working 1-1 with a child with increased SEN needs.
  • Provide support inside and outside of the classroom, so they can fully engage in a wide range of activities.
  • Help to set up activities for students, using technology or adjusting the environment to suit their needs.
  • Support teachers, engaging with students, providing learning support, and reacting to situations in the classroom in a positive, non-disruptive manner.
  • Working 1:1 with some students, to give them the time and support they need to learn.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Experience of working with children who have behavioural support needs with a good knowledge of behavioural management techniques and strategies.
  • Grade C or above GCSE in English and Math, or L1/2 equivalent functional skills qualification.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification.
