We’re looking for a Full-Time Senior Porter / Driver Team Leader to lead and manage the delivery of high-quality porter and patient transport services at The Horder Centre, a CQC-rated Outstanding hospital. This is a pivotal operational role with wide-reaching impact on patient experience, service efficiency, and organisational logistics.
You will take full ownership of day-to-day departmental performance, managing a team of Porters and Drivers to provide a responsive, efficient, and safe service across the organisation. Working closely with the Head of Corporate Support Services, you will contribute to service planning, compliance, and continuous improvement in alignment with Horder Healthcare’s values and strategic objectives.
Key Duties:
- Provide clear leadership, daily supervision, and performance management to Porter/Driver teams
- Manage departmental rotas, resource planning, and ensure full service coverage across all shifts
- Oversee all internal logistics – including the movement of patients, equipment, medical records, mail, and deliveries
- Manage the Centre’s fleet of vehicles, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, maintenance scheduling, MOTs, and daily safety checks
- Monitor and manage departmental training compliance (e.g. Manual Handling, First Aid) and support staff development
- Lead and conduct audits (H&S, infection control, fuel usage, wheelchair management, etc.) and respond to incidents using RADAR
- Ensure a safe and customer-focused transport service for patients, maintaining high standards of dignity, professionalism, and care
- Liaise with internal departments to support operational needs and contribute to wider service developments
- Support budget awareness through oversight of departmental invoicing, procurement of supplies, and fuel expenditure
- Represent the department at relevant internal meetings and act as the key point of contact for porter and driver operations
About you:
- Strong leadership and team management experience, ideally within a healthcare, facilities, or logistics setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships
- High attention to detail, with the ability to manage scheduling, compliance, and performance issues effectively
- A full, manual UK driving licence
- Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety, quality assurance, and service delivery standards
- A working ethic aligned with Horder Healthcare’s values: Caring, Friendly, Quality, Integrity, and Pride
- Applicants must be 25 years or over due to fleet insurance requirements
