Responsibilities include:

  • Taking an active role in the delivery of quality programmes within the Curriculum area.
  • Teaching on a wide range of full and part-time courses, in line with the college and curriculum area specifications.
  • Contributing to the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the curriculum in the school.
  • Preparing and marking assessments as required within the range of programmes timetabled.
  • Promoting and participating in the delivery of Basic / Key Skills.
  • Being responsible for the continuous improvement in attendance, punctuality, retention and achievement of students in designated teaching groups.
  • Producing full, considered and timely reports and references on students.
  • Participating in student interviews, enrolment and induction, open days and other liaison activities.
  • Working co-operatively within a team and attending all team meetings.
  • Fully participating in the college's ILT strategy including contributing to the upkeep of the section's intranet site.
  • Adopting fully all curriculum initiatives adopted by the curriculum area.
  • Maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of specialist areas.
  • Maintaining current and appropriate resources for all course units taught including Schemes of Work, Lesson Plans, and suitable teaching materials ensuring differentiated learning opportunities are in place.
  • Contributing to the total learning experience of students within the curriculum area.
  • Ensuring the application of Inclusive Learning in all areas of activity.
  • Ensuring continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge.
  • Any other duties of a similar level of responsibility as may be required.

The Access department is recruiting a part-time lecturer to teach GCSE Maths to adult learners. The role involves delivering high-quality, learner-centred Maths sessions; developing differentiated resources; and embedding effective assessment for learning strategies to support adults in building mathematical fluency, confidence and problem-solving skills. The post holder will also contribute to learner progress tracking, internal quality assurance processes and curriculum development within the Access team. This role will also involve working one evening per week. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting adults returning to education and keen to broaden their experience within a dynamic and supportive curriculum area.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Teaching Qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Degree and/or relevant professional qualification e.g. HNC/D.
  • Experience of teaching within the subject area.
  • If a vocational area, practical/industrial experience within that field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the subject area.
  • Understanding of current educational initiatives.
  • Creative and innovative approach to the development of teaching materials.
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft applications particularly Word and PowerPoint.
  • Willing to undertake IT training relevant to their role.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of software packages such as Promonitor, Goldmine and student record systems.
  • Familiar with using VLEs and E-Learning packages.
