About the Role

The Afghan Refugee Advocacy Project Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination and delivery of activities that support Afghan refugee women and their families in Camden.

The role will involve working closely with refugee advocates, service users, volunteers, statutory agencies, and voluntary sector partners to ensure that project activities are accessible, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and responsive to community needs.

The successful candidate will be a highly organised and motivated individual with experience of project coordination, partnership working, and community engagement.

They will play a key role in planning events, supporting advocacy work, coordinating volunteers, and ensuring the smooth delivery of activities throughout the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination
  • Coordinate the delivery of the Afghan Refugee Advocacy Project and its associated activities.
  • Maintain project plans, schedules, records, and monitoring information.
  • Organise and coordinate meetings, including preparing agendas and taking minutes.
  • Manage room bookings and venue arrangements for workshops, meetings, and community activities.
  • Coordinate transport arrangements for participants where required.
  • Monitor project activities and support reporting requirements for funders and stakeholders.
  • Partnership Working
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with local authority departments, voluntary organisations, community groups, and other key stakeholders.
  • Attend partnership meetings with council representatives, charities, and other agencies regarding individual cases, events, and project development.
  • Promote collaborative working and identify opportunities for partnership development.
  • Represent Hopscotch Women’s Centre positively at meetings and community events.
  • Refugee Engagement and Advocacy
  • Work closely with refugee advocates to ensure services are culturally appropriate and trauma-informed.
  • Embed co-production principles by involving service users in planning, shaping, and evaluating activities where appropriate.
  • Support participants to access services and opportunities through effective partnership referrals and advocacy.
  • Ensure the voices and experiences of refugee women are reflected within project activities.
  • Coordinate recruitment and onboarding processes for project volunteers.
  • Ensure completion of volunteer application forms, references, DBS checks, and other required documentation.
  • Arrange and deliver volunteer induction and training.
  • Provide ongoing support and communication to volunteers.
  • Refugee Week Coordination
  • Lead the planning and coordination of Refugee Week activities and events.
  • Work with partners and service users to develop creative, artistic, educational, and community-based activities aligned with the national Refugee Week theme.
  • Develop promotional materials and support engagement campaigns.
  • Ensure project events are listed and promoted through relevant platforms, including the Refugee Week website.
  • Support the delivery of exhibitions, workshops, performances, and community events, including occasional evening and weekend work.

  • Maintain accurate records and project documentation.
  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection requirements are met at all times.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and equal opportunities policies and procedures.

Person Specification

  • Experience of coordinating community, advocacy, refugee, or social inclusion projects.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers when settling in the UK.
  • Experience of working with diverse communities and promoting inclusion.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining partnerships with external organisations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of organising events, workshops, or community activities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and produce reports.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365, email, databases, and online collaboration tools.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection principles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of working directly with Afghan communities or refugee support services.
  • Experience of volunteer coordination and supervision.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and co-production approaches.
  • Experience of managing funding requirements and project monitoring processes.
  • Community language skills relevant to Afghan communities.
