The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) is located at Bletchley Park in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. It is home to the worldβs largest collection of working historic computers. TNMOC is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of computing for the benefit of the public.
This is a volunteer role at TNMOC. As a Volunteer, you will be responsible for assisting with various tasks and activities at the museum. This includes providing support to visitors, helping with exhibitions, assisting with events and workshops, and contributing to the overall operation of the museum. This is an on-site role located in Bletchley, Milton Keynes.
Roles available:
- STEM Ambassadors for weekends and holiday periods β To help with our STEM workshops and events. Training will be given.
- Learning Guide β To help our Learning Guides, co-ordinating schedules and take on some guiding roles.
- Shop / Ticketing β To help with the museum shop and/or ticket office.
- Customer Service β To deal with our visitors queries and help out around the museum.
- Events Support β To help with events held at the museum and externally, including some corporate events & exhibitions.
- Curatorial Team β To help manage our collections of artefacts, specialise in some collections and work with our Donations team and Senior Curator.
- Maintenance / Repairs β To help maintain and repair our exhibits on display and in storage. You will need prior repair and fault-finding experience.
- Retro Gaming β To help with our retro games machines (repair) and manage our collection of hands-on equipment.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm and passion for the history of computing
- Ability to work well in a team
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- Attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently
- Prior experience in a museum or customer service role is a plus
- Knowledge of computer history and technology is a plus
