Role Overview
As Head of Maintenance & Facilities, you will oversee the strategic and operational management of all maintenance, facilities, and safety functions across our portfolio of premium gym locations. You will ensure that every site operates seamlessly, upholds our brand standards, and delivers an exceptional experience for members and staff.
This role combines hands-on technical knowledge with strong leadership and supplier management skills. You will be responsible for developing and implementing preventative maintenance programmes, managing budgets, coordinating contractors, and ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Facilities Management
- Develop and implement the company’s maintenance and facilities strategy across all sites.
- Manage day-to-day operations including reactive and planned maintenance, site inspections, and capital works.
- Lead the maintenance team and oversee external contractors and service providers.
- Ensure all sites are maintained to a consistently high, luxury standard aligned with brand expectations.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee all technical and building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
- Manage maintenance schedules for fitness equipment (Technogym, Life Fitness, etc.) to ensure maximum uptime.
- Ensure all building systems operate efficiently and sustainably.
- Support site openings, refurbishments, and project fit-outs in collaboration with design and construction partners.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements (H&S, fire, water hygiene, electrical testing, etc.).
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Develop and implement robust safety and emergency procedures.
Financial & Supplier Management
- Prepare and manage the maintenance and facilities budget, including forecasting and cost control.
- Negotiate and manage service contracts and supplier relationships.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and sustainability improvements.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop an in-house and outsourced maintenance team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, high performance, and attention to detail.
- Ensure smooth communication between operations, site teams, and senior management.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in a senior facilities or maintenance management role within hospitality, fitness, or high-end retail.
- Strong technical background across mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance disciplines.
- Excellent leadership, planning, and organisational skills.
- Hands-on, solutions-focused approach with the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities.
- Up-to-date knowledge of UK health & safety and building compliance regulations.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, City & Guilds, or equivalent in M&E disciplines).
- Experience with gym or spa equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with BMS, CAFM systems, and sustainability initiatives.
- Experience managing new site openings and capital projects.
