We’re recruiting an IT Technician for an established and growing business based at its head office in Frodsham. This is a great opportunity for someone with a few years’ experience in IT support who wants to take more ownership and broaden their exposure across infrastructure, Microsoft 365, networking and IT security. You’ll provide day-to-day technical support across the business, working with users at all levels while helping to ensure the company’s IT systems, devices and network operate effectively and securely.

The role involves:

  • Providing 1st and 2nd line technical support across hardware, software and connectivity issues
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining laptops, desktops, mobile devices and other IT equipment
  • Microsoft 365 and user account administration
  • Supporting Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID environments
  • Setting up equipment and system access for new starters
  • Supporting wired and wireless networks
  • Managing devices and assisting with Microsoft Intune
  • Maintaining hardware, software and licence inventories
  • Supporting backups, security checks and endpoint protection
  • Assisting with system upgrades, migrations and wider IT projects
  • Maintaining accurate IT documentation
  • Working with external IT and technology suppliers where required
  • Helping employees use company systems effectively and securely

What we’re looking for:

You’ll ideally already have experience in an IT Technician, IT Support, Service Desk or similar hands-on role. We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience across some of the following:

  • Windows desktop environments
  • Microsoft 365
  • Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting
  • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN and Wi-Fi
  • Basic network administration
  • IT security and endpoint protection
  • Backup systems
  • Helpdesk / ticketing systems

Qualifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco or similar would be useful but aren’t essential if you have the right practical experience. You’ll need to be approachable, organised and comfortable dealing with both technical and non-technical colleagues. Most importantly, you’ll enjoy solving problems and taking ownership rather than simply passing issues on.

Salary: £32,000–£37,000 depending on experience. If you’re an IT Technician looking for a role where you can develop beyond traditional desktop support and gain broader exposure across infrastructure and security, we’d be keen to hear from you.

How to prepare for a job interview at Hoot Recruit

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
