Our upcoming mentoring service is based on our unique GEM philosophy, which has a foundation in evidence-based trauma-informed approaches. We work with students who have neurodiverse and trauma diagnoses, including autism, ADHD, and anxiety, who are struggling to engage with formal education.

Our mentors focus on the needs of the students and not what has gone wrong in their presentation and behaviour in school. Our mission is to deliver a completely student-centred approach, and to move students from a feeling of hopelessness and failure to a feeling of confidence and success.

Our aim is to support students back into their schools they are struggling to attend and or to improve their presentation and behaviour in school. Our expertise is with supporting students with Autism, Anxiety, ADHD and EBSA (low school attendance). We work on empowering students to make informed and appropriate choices and supporting them to engage positively with the learning process.

Our GEM Mentors will be:

  • Supporting students to re-engage with communicating and collaborating with school staff and peers
  • Developing real life skills including travel training, promoting and developing self-confidence
  • Promoting positive self-esteem and positive relationships
  • Enhancing student engagement, performance, and behaviour
  • Reducing absenteeism and classroom disruptions
  • Empowering students to manage their anxiety and behaviour
  • Meeting students at their home initially, where they feel safe and secure
  • Taking students into the community to engage in educational activities once a positive relationship is established.
  • Working in conjunction with schools to deliver Functional skills English and mathematics.

We respect that every student will have a different set of needs. This is why we pride ourselves on offering a safe and encouraging learning environment, where students can feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

We believe that all young people should be provided with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential through building resilience, self-regulation and trusting relationships. We support our students to flourish; this promotes improved outcomes, attainment, and self-esteem.

Staff wellbeing is central to our ethos, and our staff enjoy a supportive environment with opportunities for further training and growth, a competitive pension package, financial wellbeing and mental health support, within an inclusive and close-knit workplace.

The closing date for applications is Friday 3rd April 2026, and interviews will be held on 8th April 2026.

Please note that GEM Schools CIC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in our care, and therefore this role will require an Enhanced DBS check to be carried out and references checked prior to any successful applicant taking up the post.
