Registration Officer Ceremonies

Hours: Zero
Salary: Sessional payment of £65 per ceremony. Additional hours will be remunerated separately.

Introduction
The Herefordshire Registration Service is recruiting Ceremony Officers to conduct and register a range of statutory and non‑statutory ceremonies across the county.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and register marriages, civil partnerships and other ceremonies at approved venues, including Gardner Hall’s Woollard Room and Orangery, and local registered buildings.
- Prepare for ceremonies by verifying guest lists, ensuring necessary documentation, and maintaining high standards of registration practice.
- Provide excellent customer service, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor with the public before, during and after each ceremony.
- Stay flexible and adapt to unpredictable working patterns, including weekday, weekend and bank holiday availability, especially during peak summer months.
- Travel to venues using a private vehicle; unrestricted access to a car is required.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle difficult or emotional situations calmly and professionally.
Qualifications
- GCSE level Maths and English (Grade C or equivalent) or a relevant qualification.
- Experience in public speaking or presenting.
- Experience in a customer‑facing service role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional appearance and conduct suitable for officiating ceremonies.
- Evidence of continual professional development.
- Ability to address groups with confidence and professionalism.
- Ignorance of confidentiality requirements is unacceptable.
