Role Overview

At Herefordshire Council, we believe families can best identify solutions that keep children safe, supported and thriving. We seek a Family‑Led Decision‑Making Coordinator to bring children, young people, parents and wider family members together to develop sustainable plans and empower families to own decision‑making.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Family Group Conferences and other family‑led decision‑making meetings.
  • Support children and young people to participate in ways that reflect their wishes, feelings and understanding.
  • Identify and engage wider family and community networks.
  • Help families develop safe, realistic and sustainable plans.
  • Facilitate review meetings and support families to reflect on progress and changes needed to move forward.
  • Work alongside social workers and partner agencies to embed Family‑Led Decision‑Making across Herefordshire’s Families First journey.
  • Maintain high‑quality records and contribute to service learning and quality assurance.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children, young people and families.
  • Strong facilitation skills and ability to manage challenging conversations.
  • Comfortable working with complex family dynamics while remaining calm, balanced and solution‑focused.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child development and the needs of vulnerable children.
  • Experience of multi‑agency working.
  • Belief in strengths‑based, restorative and relational approaches.
  • Ability to build trust quickly and communicate with warmth, empathy and professionalism.

What This Role Isn’t

  • Holding cases.
  • Completing statutory assessments.
  • Delivering therapeutic intervention.
  • Making decisions on behalf of families.
