Social Worker – Support & Safeguarding West
Wiltshire Council | £42 per hour | Initial contract until the end of January | Full-time | Hybrid working
Hoop Social Work is recruiting an experienced Social Worker to join Wiltshire Council’s Support and Safeguarding West 1 Team, based at County Hall in Trowbridge.
This is a great opportunity to join a supportive, well-established team working with children, young people and families across Wiltshire, from early help through to permanence.
About the team
Wiltshire Council’s West Support and Safeguarding Service is committed to helping children and families thrive. The team benefits from a stable management structure, with a Team Manager and Assistant Team Managers providing regular, reflective supervision and strength-based support. You will also benefit from a multidisciplinary approach, with key workers available to co-work cases alongside you as the lead Social Worker, as well as dedicated business support. The service places a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing, offering additional support to help reduce the impact of secondary trauma. Through its teaching partnerships with the University of Bath, there are also opportunities to access learning, masterclasses and professional development.
The role
Wiltshire Council operates a one journey model, meaning you can remain involved with a child and their family from the initial referral right through to permanence, where required.
You will work with children and families with a range of needs, undertaking assessments, managing safeguarding concerns and supporting positive outcomes through effective planning and intervention.
The successful candidate will benefit from protected casework, supported by a case-weighting tool, helping to ensure workloads are managed appropriately.

- Undertake referral and assessment work with children, young people and their families.
- Lead on Child in Need and Child Protection plans, ensuring children’s needs and safety remain central.
- Assess risk, identify needs and develop effective plans to safeguard children and promote their wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with families, colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
- Support legal processes where necessary to secure the safety and permanence of children and young people.
- Maintain accurate case records and deliver high-quality, child-centred social work practice.
Working arrangements
- Pay rate: £42 per hour, depending on experience.
- Contract: Initial contract until the end of January.
- Hours: Full-time.
- Base: County Hall, Trowbridge.
- Working pattern: Hybrid, with opportunities to work remotely from home or elsewhere across the county.
