Newport City Council is seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join their Adult Safeguarding Team on a full-time locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced safeguarding practitioner to take on a key role within Newport's safeguarding service, providing professional oversight and leadership across safeguarding referrals and decision-making processes.

The Role

  • Safeguarding screening, triage and decision-making at the point of referral
  • Reviewing and managing Duty to Report concerns
  • Undertaking proportionate risk analysis and defensible decision-making
  • Coordinating safeguarding activity and multi-agency working
  • Leading on Professional Concerns (PIPOT) processes
  • Providing professional oversight and guidance on safeguarding cases

This role sits within the First Contact function but remains professionally aligned to the Adult Safeguarding Team.

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid working model – typically 2 days per week office-based and 3 days working from home
  • Slightly increased office attendance expected during the initial induction period
  • Full-time hours
  • Current funding secured until March 2027

There are no direct line management responsibilities, but the role requires strong professional leadership, safeguarding expertise and oversight of complex safeguarding activity.

To Apply for This Role, You Will Need:

  • A relevant Social Work qualification
  • Registration with Social Care Wales or Social Work England – you will need to apply to SCW in order to commence and have paid the annual fee
  • A minimum of 3 years UK experience working as a registered Social Worker
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • 3 years of satisfactory references
