The Role
As a Braille Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff to provide specialist one-to-one and classroom support.
You will adapt learning materials into Braille, promote independence, and ensure the pupil is fully included in all aspects of school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with a visual impairment.
- Read and write Braille to support learning across the curriculum.
- Prepare and adapt classroom resources into accessible formats.
- Support the delivery of personalised learning plans.
- Encourage the pupil's independence, confidence, and social development.
- Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals where appropriate.
- Assist with the safe mobility and inclusion of the pupil throughout the school day.
- The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a school setting.
- Competent in reading and writing Braille (essential).
- Experience supporting pupils with visual impairments is highly desirable.
- A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
