Location: Cardiff Start Date: September 2026

The Role

As a Braille Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support staff to provide specialist one-to-one and classroom support.

You will adapt learning materials into Braille, promote independence, and ensure the pupil is fully included in all aspects of school life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with a visual impairment.
  • Read and write Braille to support learning across the curriculum.
  • Prepare and adapt classroom resources into accessible formats.
  • Support the delivery of personalised learning plans.
  • Encourage the pupil's independence, confidence, and social development.
  • Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Assist with the safe mobility and inclusion of the pupil throughout the school day.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a school setting.
  • Competent in reading and writing Braille (essential).
  • Experience supporting pupils with visual impairments is highly desirable.
  • A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
