Hoop Education

Hoop Education is looking for confident, reliable Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools in and around Presteigne. You don't need to be a qualified teacher to become a Cover Supervisor. This could be a great opportunity if you have experience working with older children or teenagers, or have held a position of responsibility where clear communication, leadership and sound judgement were essential.

If the following job requirements and experience match your skills, please ensure you apply promptly.

  • Supervise secondary school classes during the absence of their usual teacher.
  • Explain the work provided by the school and help pupils understand what is expected.
  • Keep pupils focused, encourage participation and manage behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Respond to questions about instructions and seek support when subject-specific help is needed.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff about completed work, pupil engagement and any concerns.
  • Follow the school's safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.

  • We'd love to hear from people with experience in areas such as:
  • Youth work or mentoring – supporting teenagers through youth clubs, community projects or mentoring programmes.
  • Sports coaching and activity leadership – leading older children in sport, outdoor education or organised activities.
  • Education support – working as a teaching assistant, learning support assistant, pastoral support worker or exam invigilator.
  • Care and support work – supporting young people in residential, community or other care settings.
  • Positions of responsibility – roles in the armed forces, emergency services, training or team management where you have led others, maintained clear expectations and handled challenging situations calmly.
  • Graduate or career-change routes – bringing relevant experience with young people alongside an interest in developing a career in education.
  • Previous classroom experience is welcome, but it isn't essential. What matters is that you can demonstrate relevant experience, confidence leading a group and a realistic understanding of the responsibility involved in supporting young people.
  • We'd love to hear from people who:
  • Have experience working with older children or teenagers, or transferable skills from a responsible role.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with young people and adults.
  • Can remain calm, set clear boundaries and respond positively to challenging behaviour.
  • Are adaptable, reliable and willing to follow school guidance.
  • Are committed to safeguarding and supporting young people's learning.
  • Are ready to learn and ask for support when needed.

  • A personal approach – we take the time to understand your background, strengths and career goals.
  • Flexibility around you – share your availability and preferred travel area so we can focus on suitable opportunities.
  • Dedicated consultant support – a friendly team to help with registration, bookings and questions throughout your placements.
  • Clear communication – straightforward information about your bookings and what to expect.
  • Support with compliance – guidance through the checks and documentation needed before starting work.
  • Experience in education – develop your understanding of secondary schools and explore whether a longer-term career in education is right for you.
  • Your feedback matters – we listen to your experience of placements to help find the right fit.
  • An agency you can trust – work with a REC Gold-accredited agency and an approved supplier on the All-Wales school staffing framework.
