Overview
Product Compliance Specialist (Non Food), Mid Level, part-time 24-32 hours or full-time 40 hours. This role is split between working from home and in our London office in Islington.
Hooley Brown is a compliance and localisation agency that works on the strategy and implementation of export projects for consumer brands, including product safety monitoring and labeling adjustments.
The working language within the company is English. Proficiency in one or more European languages is a significant advantage. We are looking for a new team member with a talent for research, an eye for detail, and a passion for languages to join our rapidly growing company and help deliver customised solutions for key clients.
Responsibilities
- Work on technical dossiers, CE/UKAS marking and reviewing product packaging for export, particularly for the UK, EU, North America, Canada and Australia.
- Contribute to the administration of programs such as DRS and EPR.
- Act as a daily point of contact for customers and authorities with pressing compliance questions, providing accurate responses to support informed decisions.
- Participate in research projects as a researcher and analyst.
- Perform quality control and spot checks on the localisation team’s work, specifically approving artwork.
- Prepare reports for various markets and review blogs and content before publication.
- Work with consultants in the network on technical matters and provide professional advice on labeling, product safety, production, and export.
- Handle dossier checks by Trading Standards or help appeal Amazon decisions.
- Assist the sales team with project proposals and prepare/review product specifications.
- Perform administrative tasks such as registering barcodes, DRS, and EPR (training provided).
- Occasionally accompany directors or sales team members to meetings and relevant training courses, trade fairs, or conferences.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- At least 3 years of work experience in a regulatory affairs or technologist role where labeling was a main responsibility.
- Degree (higher professional education or university) in a relevant field; knowledge of British and European safety and labeling regulations is essential.
- Experience with export and international markets is a plus.
- Experience with one or more of the following markets is preferred:
- USA/Canada: CPSA, FCC, CPSIA, ASTM F963, 16 CFR Part 1610, NIOSH, FDA, Prop 65, etc.
- UK/EU: GPSR, CE/UKCA, EMC Directive, Toy Safety Directive / EN 71, Food Contact (EC 1935/2004), REACH, RoHS, PPE Regulation (EU 2016/425), etc.
- Australia/New Zealand: ACL, RCM, AS/NZS Standards, FSANZ, HSNO Act, etc.
- Knowledge of British and European safety and labeling regulations is essential; knowledge of other markets is desirable.
- A higher degree or university degree in a relevant field (e.g., product technology, product design) is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other digital tools; knowledge of specification systems is desirable.

- Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
- Good reading skills in one or more European languages; customer-focused, meticulous, and problem-solving mindset.

- Interest in consumer trends and a quick response to emails and phone calls during working hours.
