We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Aerospace R&D Engineer to join our dynamic team in Yeovil. This role is critical to advancing our aerospace and associated technologies through research, concept development, and prototyping (TRL3 to TRL6 typically). The successful candidate will contribute to the design, analysis, and testing of next-generation aerospace systems, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring cutting-edge solutions from concept to reality.
Key responsibilities:
- Support projects in sensor technologies, life support systems, and environmental control systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies on emerging aerospace technologies and materials.
- Develop and validate innovative concepts through prototyping and testing.
- Assist with project management, including monitoring supplier performance and reporting to program management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate R&D outputs into product development.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders, with some travel required to support projects in the UK, Europe, and the USA.
Key skills and qualifications:
- A minimum of an HNC/HND in mechatronics or related engineering field. MSc or PhD would be ideal.
- Background on mechatronics, electronics, sensors design, AI/Machine Learning, photonic circuits, Quantum sensing / Quantum mechanics.
- Familiarity with experimental methods, lab testing, or rapid prototyping techniques is beneficial.
- A willingness to learn and engage with experimental processes and methodologies.
- Strong interest in applying hands-on approaches to problem-solving in a lab environment.
- Awareness of regulated aerospace working practices (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, AS9100) and awareness of aerospace environmental qualification standards such as RTCA DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810 would be preferable.
