An exciting opportunity has arisen for an indentured/skilled machinist to work at our Manufacturing Site in Yeovil. The role will involve manual grinding and turning of aerospace components, in accordance with manufacturing instructions, specifications and customer/regulatory requirements, working within an empowered team environment to meet delivery requirements and reporting directly to the team lead.
About the Role
We are looking for individuals who have completed their indentured skilled apprenticeship or equivalent to join a highly skilled team within our agile pre‑development centre. The team is fundamental in supporting the rest of the business on site at Yeovil. We are looking for a skilled individual with experience of manual turning, CNC turning and general machining knowledge. We need a proactive individual who can work on their own initiative to keep output at its high and accurate standard.
Responsibilities
- Manual / CNC grinding: setting and planning of production and non‑production work using various materials on manual grinders and some CNC grinders.
- Internal/External grinding, surface grinding and precision match grinding.
- OCQ – Operator Control of Quality.
- Achieve on‑time delivery by ensuring work is completed on time and to the required standard.
- Interpret engineering drawings, follow process layout and documentation procedures.
Skills and Requirements
- Engineering apprenticeship/indentured skilled qualification in machining.
- Knowledge of machining and CNC grinding.
- Broad knowledge of hand measuring equipment such as vernier, micrometer, thread and plug gauges.
- Knowledge of grinding tolerances/finishes to aerospace standards (0.0002” internal/external diameter, 2‑4 micro‑inch surface finish and 0.0002” concentricity).
- Honing experience.
- Previous experience working with designers and engineers (beneficial).
