We have an opportunity for a Lead Systems Engineer to join us at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies in Edinburgh, where you will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and management of complex systems and solutions that drive innovation, safety, and efficiency across various industries. You will work within cross‑functional teams on cutting‑edge projects that transform the way businesses operate. You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and work out of our Edinburgh, UK location on an on‑site work schedule.
In this role, you will impact the development of advanced Software Defined Radio solutions for space communications systems, ensuring the design and architectural aspects of these complex systems meet Honeywell's quality standards and industry best practices. Your leadership and technical expertise will be essential in delivering innovative, reliable, and high‑performance communication systems that support critical space missions.

Our hardware and software solutions help create more fuel‑efficient aircraft, more direct and on‑time flights, and safer skies.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of complex systems for Software Defined Radio solutions in space communications, ensuring alignment with project goals and customer requirements.
- Own products to drive technical decisions during design phases and ensure technical progress is on track to meet the project milestones and product is delivered as per project schedule.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including RF, hardware, firmware, mechanical and systems engineers to integrate system components effectively.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Manage system requirements, perform system architecture design, and oversee system verification and validation (V&V) activities.
- Drive risk management and mitigation strategies to ensure system reliability and performance under challenging space environments.
- Coordinate with stakeholders including customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure project milestones and quality standards are met.
- Support the Engineering Manager in resource planning, project scheduling, and reporting to senior leadership.
- Implement and enforce quality control measures and compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices and tools.
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering and project leadership.
- Comprehensive knowledge in systems integration, implementation, and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in Software Defined Radio technologies and space communication systems.
- Experience with hardware, software, and network components design and architecture.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and lead cross‑functional teams.
- Proven track record in developing a complex RF module/system prototype based on requirements and turning it into a product.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in leading complex system integration projects in aerospace or space communications domains.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies in space communications and software defined radio.
- Experience in radar systems engineering is a nice to have.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.
- Passion for innovation and continuous learning.
- Attention to detail and excellent problem‑solving capability.
