Here at Honeycomb Houses, our general managers are responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and day-to-day operation of our stunning pubs and rooms. The role combines business management, customer service, team leadership, financial control, and operational excellence to ensure the house delivers an outstanding guest experience while achieving commercial targets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing all food and beverage operations
  • Leading and developing the team
  • Controlling labour and stock costs
  • Maintaining health and safety standards
  • Driving sales and profitability
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of service, cleanliness and compliance

The General Manager is also responsible for creating a positive culture within the business, building strong relationships with guests and the local community, and delivering a welcoming atmosphere that encourages repeat business.

Our successful general managers are highly organised, commercially aware, customer‐focused leaders who can work under pressure, make effective decisions, and motivate teams to deliver outstanding hospitality experiences. Strong leadership skills and a coaching management style that enables you to develop your team are essential.

A passion for hospitality and for living the Honeycomb Houses values of treating teams like family and guests like friends is important. A high level of organisational skill and a holistic approach to managing the three departments of the business successfully; FOH, Kitchen and Hotel is required. Attention to detail and high standards around cleanliness and the presentation of the business and team are crucial.

An entrepreneurial spirit to drive sales and events is encouraged; we want General Managers to be creative and put their mark on a business. Financial competence and the ability to manage a P&L and the relevant business controls are necessary. IT competence to work across a range of systems from table bookings management to hotel reservations, stock control and payroll is expected. Competence in the management of Health & Safety across the business is also required.

The ability to manage time effectively between management admin and operational guest-facing focuses of leading the team from the front on the floor is essential. You should be able to think on your feet and problem solve, demonstrating positive resilience and the strength to lead the team through challenges.

About Us: Honeycomb Houses is a family‐run institution born‐and‐bred from our parent company, Brakspear, which came to life all the way back in 1779. Our philosophy is simple: we treat colleagues like family, guests as friends and pubs like homes. We are looking for a General Manager to lead our friendly and talented team at The Egypt Mill.

The maximum salary for this position (depending upon experience) is £55,000 per annum, plus tronc which is approximately £3,500 per annum, and a performance‐based bonus scheme up to 100% of salary.

The Egypt Mill is a historic former watermill nestled in the scenic Stroud Valley. This unique 16th‐century building has been beautifully restored and now houses a boutique inn. The property blends rustic charm with modern comfort, offering cozy accommodations, a stylish bar and restaurant, and picturesque gardens. Its riverside setting and rich industrial heritage make it a popular destination for weddings, weekend getaways, and countryside retreats.
