The role would suit someone with strong analytical and project management experience who is confident working with financial and non-financial information, engaging with stakeholders and producing high-quality written reports. Please note: extensive report writing experience is a must for this position.
The Role
Reporting to the Programme Manager, the successful candidate will assist with the mobilisation, implementation and monitoring of a portfolio of projects, as well as supporting the assessment of project applications and making recommendations to Steering Committees. Key responsibilities will include:
- Critically assessing project applications using financial and non-financial information.
- Collating findings, identifying key risks and producing comprehensive assessment reports.
- Preparing clear, evidence-based and well-reasoned recommendations for Steering Committee consideration.
- Managing and contributing to economic appraisal processes where required.
- Producing progress reports, governance papers, submissions and reports on key themes and areas of discussion.
- Providing regular written updates to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
- Supporting the moderation and quality assurance of assessment reports, including peer reviewing scored assessments.
- Managing a portfolio of funded projects and monitoring progress against agreed requirements.
- Monitoring project implementation, outputs and performance in line with contractual requirements and relevant regulations.
- Carrying out project visits and monitoring activity through electronic management systems.
- Supporting financial management and ensuring appropriate financial controls and value for money.
- Assisting with the development, review and updating of programme procedures and guidance.
- Drafting project contracts and supporting project implementation and closure.
- Providing support to Steering Committees, including the preparation of papers and acting as part of the secretariat function.
- Investigating and resolving project queries, issues and complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with project promoters, internal teams, government departments and other key stakeholders.
- Attending meetings, events and seminars and representing the organisation as required.
- Supporting audit compliance and ensuring appropriate standards and procedures are followed.
- Contributing to the implementation of programme policies and requirements, including GDPR.
- Providing advice and guidance to project applicants and promoters where appropriate.
- Developing and maintaining a strong network of contacts across relevant stakeholder groups.
The Person
Essential Criteria The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
- Significant experience in a programme, project management, funding, assessment or similar professional environment.
- Extensive experience of producing high-quality written reports, assessments, submissions and recommendations.
- The ability to analyse complex financial and non-financial information and present findings clearly and accurately.
- Experience assessing applications, projects, proposals or funding requests and making evidence-based recommendations.
- Strong project management and monitoring skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects or priorities simultaneously.
- Experience monitoring project progress, outputs, performance and compliance against agreed requirements.
- Strong financial awareness, including experience of financial management, financial controls and value for money.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
- Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a wider team.
