Honeycomb is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a large local government organisation for a Waste Resource Management Operative. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy environmental services team delivering essential waste, recycling, and street cleansing services across the borough. This is a hands-on operational role suited to individuals who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in delivering high-quality public services, and are committed to maintaining clean and sustainable communities. This is a temporary position for 3 months on a rota basis.
The Company
Our client is a large and well-established local government organisation responsible for delivering a wide range of essential public services across the borough. The Waste Resource Management team plays a key role in supporting environmental sustainability, recycling initiatives, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the local area.
The Role
- Collect domestic and commercial waste and recyclable materials as part of a collection crew
- Assist drivers during vehicle manoeuvres and ensure safe working practices are maintained
- Carry out street cleansing duties including litter picking, sweeping, emptying litter bins, and maintaining public areas
- Assist with the collection of bulky household items, garden waste, and illegally dumped materials
- Support the day-to-day operation of Household Recycling Centres, assisting members of the public and promoting recycling
- Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation
- Contribute to winter maintenance activities including gritting and snow clearance when required
- Deliver a high standard of customer service while interacting with residents and service users
- Work flexibly across Waste Resource Management functions as required
The Person
Essential Criteria- Basic literacy skills with the ability to read and understand instructions and communications
- A minimum of 6 months' relevant experience working within a waste management environment
- Working knowledge of health and safety procedures, including manual handling and safe working practices
- Knowledge of waste collection, disposal, and recycling processes
- Flexible approach to work and ability to undertake a variety of operational duties
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Basic IT skills
- Full current driving licence
- A minimum of 12 months' experience working within a waste management environment
- Knowledge of traffic management procedures
