Job Description
Please note that this role is ideally suited to an individual with 3+ years of private client online wine sales experience. If you are new to the wine trade, please use a covering letter to explain why you want to work in this sector. You will be expected to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of fine wine, ability to generate new client relationships and look after existing clients.
The Wine Gurus team is the cornerstone of Honest Grapes’ personalised approach and service. The team are a motivated group of empowered, independent, wine-knowledgeable advisors delivering the ultimate in personalised service to customers. This is built on managing relationships across all areas of the Honest Grapes customer base and selling wines across our range. This particular role is focused on developing our current client database and associated wine sales.
We are looking for a highly self-motivated, dedicated, target-focused individual, with a real passion and knowledge for wine to join the team.
This is a proactive sales role where you will manage your own customer portfolio in order to achieve and exceed your targets, via repeat business and generating significant new business by providing loyalty through exceptional service and wine recommendations.
You will offer an unparalleled level of service so that when our customers think of wine, both you as an individual and Honest Grapes as a wine club should always be front of mind. You will work closely with the rest of the team to maximise lifetime yield and customer satisfaction overall.
Skills Required
- 3+ years fine wine sales experience in an independent or online wine merchant.
- You must have a strong interest in wine (WSET Level 3 is desirable and training will be provided).
- Excellent written English, ability to express yourself in writing, on the telephone and in face-to-face sales.
- Strong financial and profit drive, evidenced by acumen for numbers.
- Interest and experience in ecommerce systems, electronic direct marketing, social media and digital marketing as support for your sales activity.
- Be proficient in standard Microsoft applications (e.g. Word, Excel).
- You must be a self-starter, someone who motivates themselves and is well organised.
- You must be able to engage with customers and build strong relationships based on trust in your recommendations and ability to deal with issues that arise.
- You must be a good listener and empathetic with a quick and open mind.
- You must be motivated by setting goals and achieving and beating them.
- You must be resilient and competitive.
- You must have the ability to thrive under pressure.
- Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate the above characteristics day to day in the role.

- Ideally Fluent in a 2nd language (e.g., French, Italian, Spanish, German, Chinese)
- Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

Responsibilities
Sales
- Acquire new fine wine clients as Honest Grapes Club Members.
- Achieve and exceed Key Performance Indicators: most notably personal sales targets.
- Act as a Wine Guru, providing personal wine advice to Members.
- Attend and lead delivery of wine tasting events and wine fairs as required (note that this will include evening events and occasionally weekends).
- Work with colleagues managing sales to other client bases and channels.
- You will have specific knowledge and experience of one or more wine regions.
- You will have demonstrated experience in Private Client wine sales.
Marketing
- Work alongside the Marketing Team to develop content and ideas for email direct marketing, social media and digital marketing campaigns.
- Rigorously capture customer data on our databases.
IT
- Training given to become an expert in the company’s enterprise platform and sales tools
