The shift pattern is 9‑6pm two days per week. A rolling fortnight of working Saturday/Sunday one week and two days off together the following week. Experience of working in a Kitchen is essential, as is a keen attitude and willingness to learn.
SUMMARY OF CORE ROLEResponsible for the preparation, cooking and serving of nutritionally balanced, attractively presented and special diet meals, snacks and refreshments. Responsible for all food preparation areas for efficiency, hygiene and safety in all catering areas within the Home, complying at all times with Company Policy and Procedure, Health and Safety at work. To maintain and record all food hygiene documentation, daily food safety checks, cleaning and kitchen hygiene checks as set out in the Cumbria Environmental Health documentation “Safe Food – Better Business”. Responsible for ensuring that the menu planned is implemented to provide balanced and interesting meals for residents; record resident preferences or special dietary requirements on food records and cross‑referencing with food traceability records and the “Safe Food – Better Business” records. Responsible and accountable for stock control of all catering items, ordering from agreed company suppliers of provisions to ensure food items are correctly stored, managed and used to prevent avoidable wastage of ingredients and fresh vegetables. Responsible for talking to residents, staff, families and the Head Chef to gain feedback on food preferences; meal and snack quality and seasonal menu changes. To keep accurate records and information in the kitchen which reflect individual residents nutritional risk assessments and nutritional dietary needs and to make sure that residents receive nutritionally appropriate food and meal options. Responsible for the cleanliness of all food storage areas and equipment (expressly including all food fridges, freezers, cupboards and shelving; micro‑waves and toasters); carrying out the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule as identified in company policy and “Safe Food – Better Business” records. Responsible for ensuring all kitchen and food preparation areas are left clean and tidy at the end of service, with all waste / rubbish appropriately disposed of, as set out in the Company policy and in “Safe Food – Better Business”.
