Overview
Reporting directly to the AVP, Marketing, Communications & Paralegal Services, you will play a critical leadership role in controlling bad debt exposure, overseeing paralegal litigation strategy, and ensuring high-risk matters are escalated appropriately. If you are a proactive, detail-oriented leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and understands both the operational and financial impact of legal performance, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Paralegal team, driving accountability, performance, and professional standards.
- Oversee departmental workload and hearing coverage to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
- Maintain and manage an active caseload, balancing file ownership with departmental leadership and oversight responsibilities.
- Visit each branch office at minimum once per month to meet with Paralegals in person, review files, provide coaching, and ensure alignment with departmental standards.
- Maintain portfolio-wide oversight of arrears performance, driving timely escalation to control and reduce bad debt.
- Monitor and analyze litigation trends and financial exposure, implementing proactive loss mitigation strategies.
- Ensure early identification and strategic oversight of applications and emerging risk matters.
- Review hearing outcomes and implement corrective action as required.
- Escalate high-risk or significant matters in a timely manner.
- Ensure legislative compliance and high-quality representation before the Landlord and Tenant Board and Small Claims Court.
- Provide concise, strategic reporting to senior leadership on legal performance, exposure, and departmental metrics.
Qualifications
- Licensed Paralegal (P1) in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Extensive knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act and Landlord and Tenant Board procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing legal or paralegal teams.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
