About the role

To support the buying and commercial function in the procurement of materials and plant for residential housing developments across Yorkshire. The role is designed as a development position, offering exposure to all stages of the buying process within a fast‑growing, design‑led housebuilder. The successful candidate will assist with pricing, procurement, supply chain coordination, and cost control while learning best practice within a commercially disciplined, high‑quality housebuilding environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement & Supply Chain: Assist in the procurement of materials and plant in line with project programmes and budgets. Issue enquiries, analyse returns, and prepare comparisons for review. Support placing purchase orders in accordance with company procedures. Liaise with suppliers to confirm lead times, pricing, and availability. Maintain and update approved supplier records.
  • Commercial & Cost Control: Assist with maintaining cost records, cash flow forecasts, and procurement schedules. Support value engineering exercises and cost saving initiatives where appropriate. Help ensure orders are placed in line with budgets and authorised spend limits. Track order status and flag risks relating to cost, programme, or supply.
  • Project & Internal Coordination: Work closely with Commercial, Construction, and Technical teams to understand build programmes and design requirements. Attend internal procurement, commercial, and site meetings as required. Support resolution of supply chain issues, shortages, or delivery delays.
  • Administration & Systems: Maintain accurate procurement records within company systems. File contracts, orders, invoices, and supporting documentation. Ensure compliance with company procedures, audit requirements, and commercial controls.

Skills & Experience

  • Some experience in a buying, procurement, commercial, or construction‑related role (including graduate or trainee level).
  • Understanding of the housebuilding or construction industry.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional, confident manner.
  • Previous experience working for a housebuilder, contractor, or developer.
  • Awareness of material buying in residential construction.
