There has never been a more exciting time to join Homes England’s Affordable Housing team. Following the recent Spending Review, a £39bn, 10-year Social and Affordable Homes Programme is now underway—creating a significant opportunity to shape housing delivery at scale. You will be part of a team working closely with government and sector partners to deliver this ambitious programme.
We are looking for individuals who are motivated by the opportunity to shape how we deliver, as Homes England moves towards a more regional, place-based approach. A new national Growth team has been created to help us achieve a locally-led and nationally enabled SAHP. Working closely with the Head of in the National (SAHP) team, you will play a key role in increasing affordable housing supply, working closely with regions, and building relationships with partners as well as providing technical affordable housing expertise.
You will provide guidance and consistency to support local delivery as well as involvement in data and reporting on pipeline, monitoring of new investments ensuring budget, outputs, targets and policy objectives are met. You will support national and regional engagement both internally and externally. You will play a key role in increasing affordable housing supply, with a strong focus on investment decision-making.
You will ensure a consistent and high-quality approach to applications into the Social and Affordable Homes Programme, leading the assessment and approval of bids within agreed governance and delegated authority. You will provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior leaders, including the Director of Affordable Housing, helping to shape investment decisions that deliver value for money and maximise impact. Your role will be critical in ensuring funding is directed towards the right opportunities to accelerate delivery and meet regional and strategic priorities.
This is a fairly new team within a highly experienced Affordable Housing directorate who are committed to making positive change in people’s lives. The team believes in working in a collaborative way to foster good decision making and problem solving within their team as well as the ability to adapt to meet shifting priorities and take on new challenges.
You should excel at partnership working and collaboration, be an excellent communicator, and have an extensive network of industry leads across the sector with an understanding of funding models and delivery of affordable housing. It is essential that you can work collaboratively and develop effective relationships both internally and externally, work within a political environment and adapt your style to maximise contributions from a diverse range of partners.
You will need to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the affordable housing sector, understanding of development and viability appraisals as well as regional and local housing markets. Attention to detail is key alongside the ability to draw key insights from data and present them clearly and concisely illustrating potential scenarios/impacts where relevant.
