We have an opening for a Children's Therapist within our Ofsted-regulated residential children's homes located in the LE5 Humberstone and LE3 Sandhurst areas. Our Children's Homes provide specialist residential care for children with Learning Disabilities and Autism. We are committed to enhancing the lives of children by enabling them to access therapeutic, educational, and developmental opportunities within and beyond social care. We aim to instil honesty, integrity, tolerance, and respect, while promoting emotional wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes. Our approach is trauma-informed and child-centred, ensuring that each child receives individualised support tailored to their needs.
Purpose of the Role
To deliver structured, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions to children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex emotional needs. You will support emotional regulation, behavioural stability, and psychological wellbeing, working collaboratively with the residential care team to embed therapeutic practice across the home.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct therapeutic assessments and contribute to individual care planning
- Deliver one-to-one therapeutic sessions tailored to each child's needs
- Develop therapeutic strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour management
- Provide guidance and consultation to residential staff on trauma-informed approaches
- Support children in developing coping skills, resilience, and communication
- Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers, and healthcare professionals
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings and contribute professional reports
- Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records
- Promote safeguarding and best practice at all times
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with children and young people
- Experience supporting children with learning disabilities, autism, and/or trauma
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and attachment theory
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
