About the role: We are looking for a Director to lead our database growth R&D efforts, developing new methods for continuous improvement on our data generation. This role could be based in our London headquarters or our Boston laboratory, focusing on developing methods to support our global biodiscovery work. You will have the opportunity to build out a database growth R&D team, identify and prioritize new methods to enhance our biodiversity database, and work closely with various teams such as Collaboration, Production, and Data teams.
The ideal candidate will be innovative with a strong track record in developing molecular biology and next-generation sequencing methods, preferably in non-model organisms. They should be capable of managing projects involving both wet-lab and computational work, experienced in leading high-performing teams, and skilled in fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities:
- Identify strategic opportunities for improvement in production methods for database growth.
- Recruit and manage scientists for the Database Growth R&D team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Communicate the impact of R&D initiatives and implement successful methods across teams.
- Horizon scan for emerging methodologies that could add value to BaseGraph growth.
Skills and Expertise:
- At least 5 years of experience leading high-performance teams to achieve ambitious targets.
- Proven track record in developing novel molecular biology methods, especially in non-model organisms.
- Expertise in next-generation sequencing platforms.
- Experience managing projects involving both wet lab and computational teams.
- Proactive, motivated, and eager to identify new opportunities and make swift 'go/no-go' decisions.
Location: London or Boston (non-remote).
