The position advertised is full-time, to cover consultant maternity leave (12 months).
Main duties of the job
This post has been created to support and develop the OMFS service at Homerton University Hospital, and to be part of the Royal London on-call rota, in line with the needs of the two departments. The successful candidate will be working as an OMFS Consultant in OMFS at Homerton Healthcare, in a primarily elective setting, with support to develop their areas of subspecialty interest. The successful candidate will have regular outpatient and theatre sessions at Homerton Healthcare. It is envisaged that elective clinical activities at Barts Health may be possible when capacities are located.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required to join and take part in the on-call rota covering the CELWEX (City, East London and West Essex) OMFS network. This rota will be a 1:8 all week on-call from Friday to Friday, covering The Royal London, St Bartholomews, Homerton, Whips Cross, Newham and Princess Alexandra Hospitals in Harlow. The consultant will also be responsible for teaching Staff Grades and other junior staff, as well as contributing to the department teaching, audit and research programmes at Homerton Healthcare.

Qualifications
- FRCS (OMFS) or equivalent
Desirable
- MFDS or equivalent Higher degree – BSc MS MD PhD or equivalent
Registration
- Registered on GMC specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining it at the time of the interview
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
- NHS experience in last 3 years
SPECIALTY/SUB-SPECIALTY
- Subspecialist training in OMFS, in an area of interest suitable to the future development of the department
- Broad based general professional training in general medicine
TRAINING AND TEACHING
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
Desirable
- Training the Trainers Course or equivalent Teaching and Assessment in Practice Course or equivalent
MANAGEMENT AND AUDIT
- Understanding the principles of clinical governance and its implications
- Understanding and experience of audit
Desirable
- Evidence of service audit, design or change management
RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS
- Knowledge of research methodology
- Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
Desirable
- Training in research methodology.
- Publications in peer review journals
