The role of the Research Governance Coordinator provides a key interface between researchers and the Research and Innovation Department (R&I) at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The postholder will support the set-up of commercial and non-commercial research and coordinate the approval process for study amendments, contract reviews, and Trust sponsored studies, whilst adhering to ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Trust policies.
The above duties will be achieved alongside the R&I Governance Team to ensure an efficient and streamlined process for study set-up and ongoing research delivery at the Trust.
Management of these projects requires accurate documentation review and tracking until the project files are complete and the projects are approved for opening. The purpose of this role is to ensure that the Trust has completed thorough feasibility, is compliant with relevant legislation, research governance requirements, and can meet its contractual commitments. This requires close liaison with investigators, research nurses, trial coordinators, service departments, and clinicians to ensure the appropriate review and confirmation of research projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for registration and review of projects so that approval can be given once the regulatory and governance requirements are met.
- Coordinate research projects from initial registration to final local approval.
- Ensure projects have been appropriately reviewed by relevant teams and support services and coordinate responses to demonstrate that the project is deemed to be feasible.
- Work with teams to identify solutions to issues highlighted during the review of feasibility.
- Maintain close communication with researchers so that they are aware of the status of their project.
- Responsible for the collation of project information so that projects can be registered on the appropriate R&I Office systems.
- Ensure that research staff have the appropriate training and employment contracts to deliver the research. Providing advice and guidance to research teams should additional training of access be required.
- Responsible for setting up R&I committee meetings and taking minutes.
- Supporting R&I Governance Lead with research dropping sessions.
