Homerton University Hospital is one of three designated perinatal centres for the North Central and East London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NCEL-ODN) . The other two are The Royal London Hospital and University College Hospital, London.
We are recruiting into one locum post . This is a 10 PA NHS appointment based at Homerton University Hospital to cover maternity leave. The appointee would be expected to deliver 9 PAs of direct clinical care activity and will have 1 PA for supporting professional activities such as maintaining professional activities for appraisal.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to contribute and participate in the department’s ongoing clinical audit programme and will carry out all administrative duties associated with the care of their patients.
The Trust is affiliated to Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The medical school is keen to offer Honorary Senior Lecturer status to consultants contributing significantly to teaching and/or research.

As one of London’s designated perinatal centres, HUH provides a highly specialised range of obstetric and neonatal services. We currently accommodate around 6000 deliveries per year and have a 46 cot tertiary neonatal unit.
The Obstetric department provides a referral service to the Network for Fetal Diagnostic and Materno-Fetal medicine and has an established reputation in the early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies.
Homerton Healthcare was rated outstanding by CQC in 2020.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will be responsible for directing the care of all babies on the main Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with daily ward rounds. Additionally, you will also be available to offer advice to Paediatricians in Perinatal Network hospitals, GPs, Midwives and Health Visitors, and to support parents and staff.

Teaching & training
- Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching
- Experience of educational supervision, teaching skills course/ qualification
Research
- Enthusiasm for research & willingness to contribute to the research activities of the department
- Publications in peer reviewed journals, presentations at regional, national and international meetings
- Ability to communicate intelligently, sensitively and with clarity in written and spoken English
Qualifications
- CCT in Paediatrics (Neonatal Medicine) or equivalent training in neonatal medicine to fulfil syllabus/ competency requirements as published by the RCPCH, or within six months of completing
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with license to practice
Experience and expertise
- Experience of level 3 neonatal intensive care
- Current NLS, APLS or EPALS certificate
Clinical skills
- Advanced clinical skills in neonatal medicine
Leadership and professionalism
- Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service needs
- Ability to collaborate with maternity and obstetric colleagues
- Experience in governance, mortality, audit and/or quality improvement
