The Leadership Team at The Homerton Fertility Centre are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Locum Consultant to join the experienced Fertility team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We welcome applicants who are within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC’s specialist register by the date of interview.
The Homerton Fertility Centre offers comprehensive assisted conception services, has contracts with 9 CCGs in the Northeast London Area and North Central London, and performs around 900 fresh IVF/ICSI cycles and 600 FERs annually. The successful candidate will join a service which provides fertility, Gynecology, and Obstetric services for a diverse population from across East Central London.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to be trained in all aspects of assisted reproduction with level 3 skills in laparoscopic surgery. They are expected to run independent clinics, scanning sessions, egg collection procedures, HSG, Hycosy, and all aspects of fertility-related operative procedures. The post holder should be well versed to undertake male fertility associated consultations. The post holder will also lead the donor conception pathway and be responsible for the gender reassignment patients. The post holder is expected to understand the regulations associated with the assisted conception clinic in the UK and will ideally have experience of the HFEA inspection process, CQC, or other regulatory/professional inspection frameworks.

We continue to make steady progress towards our strategic aims and the strengthening of our financial position. Homerton Fertility Unit caters for the 9 surrounding Clinical Commissioning Groups. It accepts approximately 2000 new patient referrals per year and does close to 750 IVF cycles per year. The centre provides comprehensive fertility services to the neighbouring population and works closely with gynaecology, obstetrics, and the endometriosis centre in the hospital. The centre also has a very good relationship with the primary and secondary care partners.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The candidate is required to take the educational, supervisory, and mentoring role for the junior doctors and nursing colleagues in the department. The successful candidate will be able to motivate and inspire their colleagues as we continue to implement new working processes within Fertility. This post is full time (10 PAs) with a rostered weekend and bank holiday working commitment. The post holder will be expected to work the hours on site within the fertility unit. In line with the service’s business plan and Trust financial controls, there is a possibility of a substantive post becoming available at the end of 2025.
