Bank Inpatient Therapies Speech and Language Therapist

An exciting opportunity to join our Band 6 SLT bank staff at Homerton Healthcare, working in the vibrant and diverse borough of City and Hackney. We have an opportunity for a motivated band 6 SLT with excellent prioritisation and organisational skills to gain experience in a fast-paced environment with support from our friendly yet innovative and proactive service. The SLT team sits within a busy acute therapy service team comprising physiotherapists, OT, dietitians and therapy assistants. The post-holder will provide SLT input for a wide range of patients in an acute NHS hospital, and you will be part of well-coordinated, specialist multi-professional teams working closely with nursing and medical colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Develop and provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and intervention to patients with acquired disorders of communication and/or swallowing.
Act as an expert resource in advocating for patients with complex communication impairment to enable them to understand, contribute and make informed consent to treatment options for all disciplines.
Assess and determine need for alternative and augmentative communication aids.
Provide detailed information for patients\โ carers and families regarding the risks associated with oral feeding and contribute to and inform discussions with the full team regarding non-oral feeding.
Promote and maintain a high standard of evidence based clinical practice and maintain own knowledge of current literature and developments relevant to the field.
Facilitate effective communication between the Speech & Language Therapy Department and all other members of the inter-disciplinary team.
